# Ireland’s Largest Wind Farm Gets a Power Boost!

The Meenadreen Wind Farm in County Donegal—Ireland’s largest onshore wind farm—is set for a major upgrade to enhance energy resilience and support the country’s ambitious renewable targets.

Project Details:

🔹Capacity: Currently 95 MW from 38 Nordex N90 turbines (each 2.5 MW), capable of powering up to 50,000 homes with clean wind energy.

🔹Location: Situated in Leghowney, South Donegal, the site offers stunning views of the Bluestack Mountains and is part of popular walking trails like the Leghowney Loop and Ulster Way.

🔹Upgrade scope: The approved upgrade will retrofit turbines with advanced technology to increase efficiency, reliability, and output, helping Ireland reach its goal of 80% renewable electricity by 2030.

🔹Environmental impact: Meenadreen reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 100,000 tonnes annually, contributing significantly to Ireland’s climate action efforts.

🔹Community involvement: Energia has invested heavily in local engagement, including renovating a historic cottage on-site as a shelter for walkers and establishing a community fund supporting local projects.

🔹Innovation: The wind farm has pioneered autonomous drone inspections to monitor turbine health, improving safety and operational efficiency.

🔹Economic benefits: The upgrade will create local jobs and continue to contribute to local authority revenues through rates and community funding for at least 25 years.
